Kai-Yin Lo is one of Asia’s first international Chinese brands. She is an acknowledged forerunner in reinterpreting culture and heritage into original and highly wearable jewellery and accessories that reflects China and Asia’s past and present. Her designs are collected and cherished the world over as veritable works of art that redefine value for everyday or for eternity. For this, she received the highest accolade from a Chinese nationality “World’s Leading Chinese Designer” in 2007.
Described by the Wall Street Journal as a“Renaissance Woman”, Kai-Yin Lo is known not only as a jewellery designer of global renown, but also as a recognized authority on Chinese culture, classical and contemporary art.
Kai-Yin shared kudos with Cartier for outstanding and influential interpretation of“New China Chic” at an exhibition held at Kennedy Centre, Washington DC, at October, 2005. Japan’s leading store, Wako in Ginza, honoured her with the first exhibition given to a Chinese designer in 2008. She was selected as one of the inaugural “25 Influential Chinese in Global Fashion” by Forbes China in 2010 and was the first recipient of the“Tatler Group Cultural Award” in 2011.The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Hong Kong and Japan commissioned Kai-Yin to interpret its spirit in souvenir designs. She was the spokesperson for Visa Infinite Card in Hong Kong.
A student of history at Cambridge and London Universities, Kai-Yin is an historian, editor, curator, and art and culture consultant besides being a designer of jewellery, ceramics and home wares. She is Principal Visiting Lecturer, Cross Culture, at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London; Member, Asia Pacific Art Acquisition Committee, Tate Modern; Art Advisory Committee, Asia Society, Hong Kong Centre; and Committee Member, M+ Museum, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Hong Kong, amongst others.
